Leather and Plaid

LEATHER& PLAID from Betty & Lori......

There are a few things that I believe moms want to do all the time. One of them is to play it safe...with everything, right? Especially with their wardrobe and accessories. I know many edgy and cool moms who wear what they want, how they want and whenever they want. I love that. Others, including myself, need a slight reminder to just go for it!
This gorgeous Shoshanna white leather and plaid Marlee dress that Lori picked out for me is a perfect example of something I would have passed up. Once I had it on, I didnt' want to take it off!

Then she gave me this gorgeous Jennifer Zullo necklace that you easily snap on (magnets!!) and a
gorgeous Krysia Renau statement ring in a beautiful shade of purple. Both exclusive at Dressed by Lori
Unexpectedly to me, all of it worked so well together. Please take a look!
As you can see, I also wanted to read at DressedbyLori all day long.

What do you think of this combination?
Are you more of a risk taker with fashion these days? Please share!

5 Ways to Channel Your Inner Audrey

So it's 2014 and I've decided to start a monthly blog. Some will be my own, some will be content from others (like this one).  The blog will contain topics that inspire me and hopefully be of interest to you. Give me your feedback and let me know what you think.  Happy 2014~
Here's my first inspiration - Audrey Hepburn
and Karina Dresses ~

How did Audrey Hepburn become a global style icon? Not by accident. She was deliberate about style. Out of admiration, we do something today that Audrey wouldn't abide: we try to imitate her sense of style. It's so...un-Audrey-like. Rocking your inner Audrey takes more than a sheath dress and a tiara. Here are the genuine secrets of channeling a real Audrey vibe-your way.
1) Master your body's fine points. Audrey was body conscious. She knew every flaw and asset and her clothing always reflected one of two goals: hide or highlight. So you have a few flaws. Flaws? What flaws? That was Audrey's mindset.
2) Stand tall. As a reluctant movie star, Audrey's real dream was to dance-a career choice she made well before she was discovered. That training and a perfectionist mother who never allowed her to slouch gave Audrey remarkably good carriage. You can look like royalty in a pair of sweatpants and a T-shirt when you have good posture. Walking tall does more for your appearance than all the diamond (or zirconia) tiaras in the world.
3) Be a devoted Mom. She was somewhat shy about giving interviews, but one thing always came through about Audrey: being a mother meant everything to her. She considered it her highest calling. Whether you have children or not, sharing your wisdom with someone who is trying to find their way in the world can be part of every woman's destiny.
4) Be kind, be wonderful, be extraordinary. "Everything you've ever read or heard about Audrey Hepburn doesn't come close to how wonderful she was," says Richard Shepherd in Sam Wasson's book, Fifth Avenue 5 A.M.: Audrey Hepburn, Breakfast at Tiffany's and the Dawn of the Modern Woman.  Shepherd, the producer of Breakfast at Tiffany's, describes her as bright, caring, modest, gentle and kind. When you cultivate those traits, you bring Audrey's loveliness back to life in a way that mere clothing can't accomplish.
5) Eat well, but in moderation. I know you've heard this Audrey-Lore: She kept her weight down by having toast and tea for breakfast and splurging at lunch with... cottage cheese or yogurt and fruit. Wrong. In truth, Audrey was just like the rest of us. She loved to eat. How did she do it? Humphrey Bogart said it best: "She's disciplined, like all those ballet dames." In What Would Audrey Do?: Timeless Lessons for Living with Grace and Style, by Pamela Keough, Audrey shares her dietary habits. "I eat everything, everything-but as soon as I'm satisfied, a little hatch closes and I stop." That and a little help from her genes kept Audrey svelte.
But that was her gene pool-not ours. Let's be sane about our weight. Regular, extraordinary people are too busy doing items 1, 2, 3 and 4 to obsess about weight. Weight loss is a very contemporary preoccupation that did NOT exist in days gone by.
bronze cheeta meagen
Would Audrey wear cheetah? How can you improve on this cheetah-print Megan and a pair of boots? These vintage sterling rosebud earrings and a strand of metallic beads were all it needed. The earrings belonged to my husband's great aunt. They are so tarnished they almost look black, but that just adds to their appeal.
There will never be another Audrey Hepburn, but practicing these Audrey-like qualities every day is a worthy aspiration for any woman. Let's not be satisfied with imitating her iconic style. What made Audrey special wasn't just her clothes-it was her concern for others. If you could leave a legacy as lasting as Audrey's, what would it be?

World's Best Dresses!
I am a huge fan of Karina dresses - they are flattering, comfortable, super easy care (just wash in cold and hang to dry!), great for many occasions. The Audrey is a fantastic basic style that can be dressed up our down; I also wear them as a jumper over a long-sleeved shirt and leggings for the colder months. The fabrics and colors are amazingly creative and fun, and the company's customer service could not be nicer and more helpful. A big win all around for women of every shape and size - including me (DDD bust), my best girlfriend (no bust to speak of) and my 78-year old mother!  ~ Elizabeth S.
I wore the first one today. I'm in love! The dress looks great on me. It is the perfect weight under a lab coat (which I live in all day). I looked professional and was very comfortable. The length is perfect for bending over to listen to heart sounds and lungs :), allows me to kneel down onto the floor when required :), I felt pretty in it and was so excited to wear a dress! As you know, I always go separates b/c dresses don't work well on me without endless alterations. Then when I got home at 10:30 at night after a very long day, Andy said, "you look beautiful!" All good :)
I have the brown/red one and the animal print. You sent me S/M. Do you have others? I want more. Send pictures please. I want that style in a few more if you have.
Thank you for creating such a wonderful success for me.  ox Laura B

I just wanted to thank you & let you know that I had one of the best shopping experiences at your shop. It is so warm & welcoming...you have thought of everything to make shoppers feel comfortable. I especially love the dresses that I came home with! Now I can't wait to wear them... Thanks again!!

Thanks so much for a very fun afternoon with you and my daughter-in-law Christy. Your approach to working with her was right on target and you now have a new fan for life!
I guess you have figured out by now that I too am a big fan of yours, and I promise to direct new customers to you whenever I can. Thanks so much for your personal attention and consideration - you're the best!
